“The success of our venture will be measured by the willingness of citizens to donate their historic treasures, their time and the funds to operate a truly meaningful Museum.”

Founding Chairman, Dr. Thomas D. Clark,
First meeting of the Board of Trustees, June 2000.

As Kentucky’s Historian Laureate, the late Dr. Tom Clark, foresaw, the Lexington History Museum is blessed by the generosity of our members and friends.  Donations range from the pennies deposited at the entrance by school children to the major donors who are assuring Dr. Clark’s hope that the Museum could be available to all citizens without an admission fee.  The latter group, members of the Thomas D. Clark Society, presently number 106 businesses, foundations and families who contribute $1000 per year for a minimum of five years.

The Museum recognizes that many of its members and friends are limited in their giving level and welcomes gifts of all sizes to support its annual goal of $96,000 in operational funds a large portion of which is directed toward educational initiatives.  The Lexington History Museum, Inc. is a Kentucky non-profit corporation and recognized as a 501(c)3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service.  Gifts of cash and stocks may be forwarded to the

Historical Assets
The Museum welcomes gifts of items that are related to its mission of preserving and exhibiting the history of Lexington and the Bluegrass.  A collections committee of the Board of Trustees, advised by the Museum’s Curator Robert C. Magrish, has established guidelines for the acceptance of gifts based on the appropriateness of the item, the Museum’s ability to maintain and preserve the item and other standards related to good stewardship.  Potential gifts may be accepted as loans for the period necessary to evaluate the items and be reviewed by the collections committee.

The Museum has established working relationships with other Kentucky museums and organizations that might be more appropriate recipients, particularly until the Museum’s facilities in the Lexington History Center building can be remodeled to afford proper environmental conditions.  Potential donors may contact the President, Edward T. Houlihan, at 859-335-6637 to discuss potential gifts, needs and Internal Revenue Service regulations governing gifts of historical items.
